KHULNA: Khulna Income Tax Zone has collected over Taka 29.14 crore income tax as revenue from the income tax fairs which concluded yesterday evening in ten district and eight upazila headquarters under Khulna division.
In the divisional city, Khulna Zonal Tax Commissioner's Office organised the week-long Income Tax Fair-2017 from November 1 to 7 on Boyra Income Tax Building premises in the city with an objective to motivate people to pay taxes, so that the government can invest more in public welfare.
Talking to BSS, Commissioner of Taxes for Khulna Zone Iqbal Hossain said around 27,812 tax payers paid over Taka 29.14 crore as income tax revenue in these tax fairs arranged under Khulna zone till last night. Iqbal said over Taka 29.14 crore has been collected as income taxes in these fairs yesterday which is higher by Taka 57 lakh collected from similar fairs held last year under Khulna zone.
"In these fairs, 54,570 tax payers have taken various services from income tax officials this time against 42,759 tax payers who took similar services in these income tax fairs held last year in the zone," Iqbal said. In addition to this, 1,202 new tax payers were registered electronic tax payer identification number (eTIN) in these fairs this time in Khulna zone.
"The income tax officials worked successfully to create awareness among citizens and inspire them in paying income taxes," Iqbal said adding that steps have been taken to achieve the fixed income tax collection target of Taka 1500 crore in the zone this year.
